Bendida Rubin/Mavrud 2019

This rich, full bodied red wine is a blend of two indigenous Bulgarian grapes - Rubin and Mavrud. Elizabet of Bendida is an incredible wine maker, and is really able to bring out the best of her grapes. This is one of her more "commercial wines" and she only makes c. 1500 bottles a year. This is a complex wine, with rich dark fruits, with an underlayer of warm spices and chocolate from the oak and age, and the natural spiciness of the Rubin grape. This is still a young wine, I'm sure it would age and mellow beautifully over the next 10+ years if you can wait. This has Christmas all over it for me. Pair it with roasted or slow cooked meat or aubergine. Yum.
